PSV is aiming to secure another striker during the final days of the summer transfer window. The urgency has increased since Alassane Pléa sustained a severe injury, and Ricardo Pepi is just recovering from a seven-month rehabilitation. One of the potential candidates mentioned is Mehdi Taremi.
However, it seems increasingly unlikely that the Iranian international, who has 94 caps and 56 goals to his name, will join PSV. Despite Inter Milan being open to letting Taremi leave, even on a loan basis, his towering salary of approximately five million euros poses a significant hurdle.
Currently, Sassuolo appears to be leading the race for the temporary acquisition of the seasoned striker. Panathinaikos has also expressed interest in his availability.
Taremi has reportedly shown interest in joining PSV, as it would allow him to compete in the Champions League. The Iranian forward, now 33 years old, played a significant part in the previous football season but primarily came off the bench for the Nerazzurri. During that time, he managed only three goals in 43 appearances and didn’t feature in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended in a heavy 0-5 defeat for his team.
Initially, Taremi was slated to contribute to Inter Milan’s campaign in the Club World Cup, but circumstances prevented that. During his time at FC Porto, Taremi demonstrated a better scoring record and showcased his abilities more effectively.
In 122 league matches for the Portuguese side, he found the back of the net an impressive 64 times before making a free transfer to the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. His current contract runs until 2027.
