Nigerian football continues to make waves in Europe as Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has officially joined newly promoted Serie A side Pisa SC on loan from Inter Milan. The deal includes an option for Pisa to purchase him permanently. While Inter Milan keep a buyback clause, ensuring they retain a stake in the future of one of Nigeria’s brightest young talents.
Born in Lagos in 2004, Akinsanmiro’s meteoric rise began at Remo Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League. His early career was marked by a promotion-winning campaign with Remo Stars that set him apart as a youngster. He briefly joined Alex Transfiguration in Lagos. Notably helping the club reach the final of the prestigious Torneo di Viareggio in 2022.
In January 2023, Inter Milan secured Akinsanmiro’s signature amidst intense competition from European giants including Real Madrid and Benfica. Akinsanmiro initially joined Inter’s Primavera (U-19) squad, where his performances earned call-ups to the first team. He made his Serie A debut in February 2024, coming on as a substitute in Inter’s commanding 4–0 victory over Lecce. However, with the elite Nerazzurri squad pushing for top honours, there were few opportunities for him at senior level. Prompting a loan move to Sampdoria for the 2024-25 season.
At Sampdoria, competing in Serie B, Akinsanmiro quickly became a vital cog. He made 31 league appearances and scored once, proving his resilience and quality while playing regular senior football. His contributions were critical in keeping Sampdoria afloat in a challenging season. While his performance drew the attention of clubs across Italy.
Pisa SC, fresh from securing promotion to Serie A after 34 years, have strengthened their midfield options by landing Akinsanmiro. The move, officially announced by Inter Milan, is seen as an opportunity for the 20-year-old to test himself at the highest level and further develop his game amid the rigours of top-flight football.
For Pisa, Akinsanmiro’s arrival is a statement of intent as the club aims to establish itself in Serie A. The loan structure, with options granted to both Pisa and Inter, reflects the belief in his long-term potential by all parties involved.
