Abel Ferreira’s team returns from the USA after elimination against Chelsea and awaits CBF‘s decision on the next Brasileirão fixture.

Following their quarterfinal exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, Palmeiras landed at São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport on Saturday evening (5th). Under the leadership of Abel Ferreira, the team concluded their campaign after a 2-1 loss to Chelsea.

Due to the extensive travel and physical strain, the management decided to grant the squad a rest period. Players are scheduled to return to training on Friday morning (11th). The focus now shifts to the Brazilian Championship, though uncertainty remains about the derby against Santos, initially set for next Saturday (12th), as part of the 13th round.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding the derby, Palmeiras has a confirmed fixture against Mirassol, scheduled for July 16 at 7:00 p.m. (Brasília time) at Allianz Parque, for the 14th round of the Brasileirão. The expectation is that CBF will make an announcement in the coming days regarding the feasibility of the clash against Santos.

Although the Brazilian club did not secure the world championship title, it leaves the tournament with a commendable financial achievement: over R$200 million was earned, thanks to a strong campaign that featured victories against Al Ahly and Botafogo, draws with Porto and Inter Miami, along with a defeat to the English team.

The team returned to Brazil facing a few key absences. Young player Estêvão, who was transferred to Chelsea, stayed behind in the United States to complete a two-day adaptation schedule with his new club before starting his vacation. Meanwhile, midfielder Paulinho, who sustained an injury during the tournament, is set to undergo surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Additionally, defender Murilo will be continuing treatment to recover from a left thigh injury. The coaching staff plans to ramp up physical and tactical preparations starting Friday, aiming to ensure the team resumes domestic competitions in top form.
