Manchester United is aiming to reinforce its midfield this summer. Coach Ruben Amorim is hopeful for the arrival of new players that will fit his tactical approach. Interestingly, it appears there is a possibility that the Portuguese coach may acquire a player whom Erik ten Hag has keenly desired in recent years. British media are once again buzzing with the potential transfer of Frenkie De Jong to the Old Trafford squad.
There has been speculation in both England and Spain about the 27-year-old midfielder joining Manchester United. Erik ten Hag, who has previously worked with De Jong during their time together at Ajax Amsterdam, has been eager to sign him. Although a reunion has not happened yet, the upcoming months might finally see De Jong donning the Red Devils’ jersey.
According to information from Caughtoffside.com, Manchester United is among a few clubs that have been given the opportunity to sign De Jong. FC Barcelona is reportedly willing to accept an offer in the range of €35-40 million. Other clubs informed of his transfer availability include Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
De Jong’s current contract with Barcelona is set to expire in June 2026. While negotiations for an extension are ongoing, the Dutch player has yet to accept Barca’s offer. So far, he has made 242 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring 19 goals.
