World Cup Match Predictions: Serbia vs Switzerland | 2/12/2022

An interesting but undecided match between two nations who, in a fairly even group, will be punching their last ticket on the way to qualifying.

📄 Match Analysis: Serbia vs Switzerland

Pre-bet Analysis

Serbia managed to surprise everyone. In its group in the qualifiers, Serbia finished top, allowing it to qualify directly, to the detriment of Portugal who then had to compete in the playoffs. Unbeaten, Serbia also finished far ahead of Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.

Switzerland continues to surprise. The Swiss created a sensation by finishing top of their group in the qualifiers, two points ahead of Italy who went on to lose in the playoffs. In eight matches, Switzerland didn’t lose once and conceded only two goals against the likes of Italy, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania.

Vengeful Serbia. In the only previous face-off between these two teams during a World Cup, Switzerland managed to beat Serbia by a score of 2 goals to 1. This was in the 2018 Russian World Cup, also in the group stage.

Team Form

Serbia continues to impress. Having lost only one of its last nine matches (a friendly against Denmark), Serbia has put on some notable performances, such as its success on Portuguese soil on the final day of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

After having understandably lost against Brazil (2-0) and conceding a frustrating draw against Cameroon (3-3), Serbia must get the win against Switzerland.

Switzerland has had less success. The Swiss lost their first three matches in the last Nations League against the Czech Republic, Portugal and Spain. They were, however, in good form ever since the quarter-final of the Euro.

The Swiss started well, winning against Cameroon by the slightest of margins (1-0) before losing right at the end of the match to Brazil (1-0). A draw could see them qualify, but the ideal outcome would be a win.

✔ Exact Score Prediction: Serbia vs Switzerland

This match promises to be close; we should witness a battle between these nations who have shown character and who have to get a good result to qualify. Our prediction for the exact score leans towards an even match which sees both teams score multiple times with neither team walking away victorious in the end.

Victory for Serbia

If one team is going to win, this seems the most likely scenario. Serbia has some great offensive talent who could make a real difference. They often do in close matches like this one. However, we don’t see the Serbs taking the win here.

Draw

This outcome is the one we favour. The two teams play at a similar level, and neither of them stands out more than the other. This is why an even score seems to be a good compromise for this encounter.

Victory for Switzerland

This seems to be the least likely outcome. Switzerland is undoubtedly a threatening team with a good overall lineup, but will this be enough to beat a team full of high-quality individuals? This is rather uncertain.

✔ Half-time/Full-time prediction: Draw 1st half; Draw 2nd half

We foresee an exciting match with plenty of surprising moments. Thus, the two teams will likely offer plenty of spectacles but despite goals in both the first and second halves, neither Serbia nor Switzerland will walk away with the win.

✔ Scorer Predictions: Serbia vs Switzerland

For Serbia, the Lazio player Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and his teammate, the Ajax captain, Dusan Tadic should hold their position and score. On the opposite side. The speed of Breel Embolo could do some serious damage to the opposing defence.

✔ Double Chance Scoring predictions: S. Milinkovic-Savic / B. Embolo

Plenty of people could participate in this match. The midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who shows good offensive qualities, could be a deciding factor, just like the attacker Breel Embolo, who often answers the call in big encounters.
