NPFL Fixtures 2023

After a long break, football fans welcome the Nigeria Professional Football League; hence this guide will cover the NPFL fixtures for the 2022/23 season.

What is the NPFL Format

Due to time constraints, the new organizers of the Nigeria Professional Football League, the Interim Management Committee(IMC), have introduced a new format for the 2022/2023 season.

IMC replaced the League Management Company, which has been overseeing the league’s affairs since 2012. This happened after the company was declared illegal by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.

For the 2022/2023 season, the 20 participating clubs are drawn into groups A and B. Each group contains 10 teams, with each team playing a total of 18 games (Home and Away).

At the end of the league, the top three teams on the NPFL table from each group will then play a Super 6 tournament to determine who will be the NPFL 2022/2023 Champions.

Also, the bottom two on the NPFL table from groups A and B will be relegated to allow promotion for NNL teams into the Nigerian Professional Football League. As a result, there are no special qualifiers for the NNL team to get promoted into the NPFL.

The NPFL fixtures for the new season released by the Interim Management Committee scheduled matches to begin on January 8 and end on May 14.
